Letter from the Organizers
Dear fellow citizen, Thank you for taking the time to visit Distressed Patriots for America. As we traveled the Internet doing research, we were struck by the diversity of individuals, groups, foundations, think tanks and national organizations that share the common belief that America is in great peril. Distressed Patriots for America believes, as do innumerable constitutional scholars and lawyers, that the constant encroachments of the federal government on the sovereignty of individuals and states, abetted by liberal judges at all levels of the judicial systems, especially at the Supreme Court, is a direct result of abandoning our Constitution. At the close of the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked, "What kind of government have you given us, Dr. Franklin?" He replied, "A republic, if you can keep it." In fact, the United States of America is the oldest existing constitutional republic in the world and the U.S. Constitution is the foundation upon which Americans built a nation unlike any other. But the American republic is more than a democracy, which is rule of the majority; we are a republic because the Constitution gives us Rule of Law to insure against the tyranny of the majority. America is at an historic crossroad with an administration, Congress and judicial system that is liberal, imperial, socialistic, nationalizing corporate America, trampling on individual and state sovereignty and amassing such national debt as to financially enslave future generations. Amongst a significant population of America, there is a growing and unifying consensus that America has abandoned many of its founding principles, is rapidly straying from capitalism to socialism, moving towards usurpatory taxation and social manipulation, and that government, especially Congress, is out of control and no longer serving the will of the people. Today, our constitutional republic is on the precipice of being abandoned by a liberal socialist leaning government that is supported and influenced by wealthy special interest, such as George Soros, and the owners of media properties, such as the NY Times and GE (MSNBC) that produce biased news (also referred to as propaganda) to shape public perception of political and social issues. While our government and organizations, such as MoveOn.org - Democracy in Action, promote America as a democracy, and as exemplified again and again by President Obama in his June 4th speech at Cairo University, we are in fact moving from a constitutional republic to an oligarchy. Broad segments of American society are rising up and demonstrating with Tea Party Rebellions and tea bag mail campaigns exemplifying growing national dissatisfaction. In some quarters, outrage reigns at the financial, economic and social agenda. Abetted by Congress, legislation that will drastically change the fabric of America is being rammed through in the dead of night, with insufficient debate and often not even read by Congressional representatives or their staff. Concerned voices are speaking out not just for freedom, capitalism, democracy and less intrusive government, but for adherence to the governing principle enumerated in the U.S. Constitution, which is America’s only course if it is to remain a constitutional republic. Clearly, the movement to save America has many issues and voices, but we asked, what is the one symbol or standard under which all could rally? Two such standards during the American Revolution were the Gadsden "rattlesnake" flag with the words "Don't Tread on Me," and the Grand Union Flag that remained the unofficial national flag until June 1777. We envisioned a symbol that would be recognized by all and most importantly express both patriotism and distress with our government. The result was the Distressed Flag design. As the American Revolution proved, binding common cause provided the unity, strength and resolve to create a new nation. Fortunately, we do not have to create a nation, but we the people must save the one we have. We hope you will join with Distressed Patriots in their campaign to support the Bill of Federalism and Save our Constitutional Republic. God bless America. Chris P. Janelli and Vivian L. Rockwell |
